Hello!








Here I am again to share some of the contents I've taught to my students lately.

"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" (Michael Bublé's version) 

For obvious reasons, some students requested to learn some Christmas Carols this month.

Whenever I theach one of these songs, I like to use an artist's version as a reference. That way, I can get some ideas from the arrangement, instead of just teaching the chord sequence.

The arrangement of this one in paticular seemed very cool to me, so I decided to write an arrangement for just one guitar.

The first part of the video I've uploaded it's me playing along with the actual song. The second part is jut me and the metronome. 


I couldn't hear very well the song and the metronome while I was doing the recording (I was kind of guessing it), so my timing isn't great. I hope you enjoy it anyway.

"How Insensitive" (A.C. Jobim)

I've uploaded the notes I made for Cleide, one of my students at Da Cappo music academy in Alicante. She's learning this melody, and I though some analysis and a fretboard map would help her.


The melody has four parts.
The two notes circled will repeat four or two times.
The single note circled is a note in between to sections.
The rectangle is a phrase with more than two notes.
A vertical line indicates there's a semitone.
A diagonal line indicates the same notes is used to finish a phrase and to start another.

I've included a fretboard map and the fingering, in case you can't read the standard notation.

Some melodies have a certain "shape". If you realize that, learning and memorizing a tune is a lot easier.

Listen to Wes Montgomery's version, which is in the same key.

If you want to save in you computer any of these sheets, just right click over the image and choose "save image as".

You can also play it on the first position, near fret one.

"One" (U2)

I did this easy arrangement for one of my students. He wanted to play the Intro of the song with just one guitar. The original version, and most of the tutorials I've seen, require two guitars.
I tried to record this video with my laptop's webcam, and the quality isn't great, but I believe it will help you to get an idea of how it sounds and which fingers to use.

Aquí estoy una vez más con mi blog mensual, para compartir algunos de los contenidos de mis últimas clases.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (versión de Michael Bublé) 

Como se acercaban las fechas navideñas, algunos alumnos me han pedido aprender villancicos.

Cada vez que enseño uno, me gusta escuchar la versión de algun artista para escuchar los arreglos, y poder incluir algún detalle más, aparte de los acordes.

El arreglo de esta canción me pareció interesante, y decidí hacer una especie de síntesis para una guitarra sola.

El video tiene dos partes, en la primera toco sobre el disco, y en la segunda solo escucharéis la guitarra y el metrónomo. 

Tanto la música del cd como el metrónomo, lo puse muy bajito por el altavoz del portátil para que se escuchara bien la guitarra en la grabación. Aunque la cámara finalmente lo recogió bien, mientras lo grababa, casi tenía que imaginarlo, así que sed benévolos con mi tempo. Me hubiera gustado hacer otra toma, pero Santa Claus caducaba en breve ; )

Acabo de comprobar que al reproducir el video aquí en el blog, el audio y el video no están sincronizados, así que os recomiendo que lo veáis directamente en youtube haciendo click en el logo de youtube en la esquina inferior derecha de la pantalla.


 

How Insensitive (A.C. Jobim)

A continuación he subido los apuntes que hice para mi alumna Cleide, en la academia Da Cappo, para que le resultara más fácil aprender la melodía de esta canción.

La melodía consta de 4 frases. 
Las dos notas que aparecen dentro de un círculo, son dos notas que se repetirán varias veces (4 ó 2). 
La nota suelta en un círculo es una nota que enlaza dos partes. 
El rectángulo es una frase que consta de más de dos notas. 
Cada línea vertical indica que hay un semitono entre esas dos notas. 
La línea diagonal indica que con la misma nota que termina una frase, empieza la siguiente.

También he incluido las notas en un diapasón y la digitación para los que no leéis solfeo. 

Hay melodías que tienen una "forma" determinada, y conocerla ayuda a memorizar más fácilmente.

Podéis escuchar la  versión de Wes Montgomery, que está en esta misma tonalidad.  

Para guardar o imprimir cualquiera de las hojas que he escaneado en este blog, haced click con el botón derecho y elegid la opción "guardar imagen como".

También se puede tocar en la primera posición.

La versión original, y los tutoriales que he visto por youtube, son para dos guitarras, así que hice este arreglillo para que se pudiera tocar con un solo instrumento. 


Grabé el video con la webcam del portátil, y el audio quedó muy bajito. Aún así, creo que puede servir para que os hagáis una idea de como se puede tocar.
